What Bearing Do I need?

Tapered_Roller_Bearings.jpgWhat bearing do I need?

You have just had a breakdown, and you need a bearing right away, but what bearing do you need? Some times it's too easy. There is a clearly visible part number, so away you go!

But even then you can have difficulty, like a bearing with a standard part number on it, that turns out not to be standard. These are sometimes called "inch bore metric bearings" or "funny bore Bearings"

Try to get an accurate measurement.

Most bearings go by ID x OD x W. That is: Inside Diameter (or shaft) x Outside Diameter (or Housing) x Width (or Depth). Metric or imperial measurements don't really matter as we can convert to the style that is appropriate.

Also be on the look out for any special features.
Does the bearing have a snap ring and groove? Is the Inner Race wider than the outer race? Is the outer race rounded or spherical in shape? Perhaps the bearing is flanged?

Where does the bearing go, and what does it do?

To get the right bearing, sometimes knowing the application can help. If it is for an Automotive or Off Road vehicle, let us know the make, model and year, engine type and size etc. We have listings for hundreds of applications.

If in doubt call us at Centre State Bearings.

Chances are that we can help you identify that bearing (or seal, or filter, or other part...)
